A bit of information follows on Beirut, once considered to be the “Pearl” or “ Riviera of the Middle East”. What’s more, this year, the New York Times nominated it number one destination in the world. It’s so impossibly glamorous.
A partial quote from 2 young ladies who went there for a holiday. “Our impressions of Beirut City and life there, is so positive that we want to go there again. We got used to the Military presence – the security force is around, but it makes you feel safe. The City Centre is renovated, and it looks amazing. Lots of small coffee shops, restaurants, great food, free fruit platters. A beautiful long corniche to walk along. Visit the stunning Jeita Grotto, (in competition for one of new Wonders of the World), Harissa and the Statue of Virgin Mary, as well as to Jbeil (Byblos), one of the most ancient cities in the world. Lebanon really has so much to offer in sightseeing, historically and culturally.
There are some amazing public beaches in Beirut, some with membership card, some with entrance fee. The Riviera Beach Club is one of the best, where the elite and privileged are dressed up in designer beach wear. Beirut’s nightlife is considered to be by many the best in the world. Superbly dressed, relaxed and friendly people dancing the night away. A whole new road system has been built from Beirut airport to the City Centre. There are two top hotels Le Gray and Carlisle Bay in Antigua, has just opened, and a Four Seasons, is opening soon. The people are so cosmopolitan. The nightlife so sophisticated. There’s nowhere else like it in the Middle East. And The food! “It’s the food of your dreams, the apotheosis of all Middle Eastern cuisine, made from only the freshest ingredients, beautifully presented, and served” (HU3264)
