We are looking for a highly experienced Chief of Staff/Household Manager who has the ability to run and manage a new and busy team of housekeepers, chefs, nannies and drivers for a long-standing client of ours. The family currently live off High Street Kensington but shall be moving into a newly built house in the new year. You will be expected along with the other staff to oversee the move.

The overall running of the residence, both inside and outside will all fall under your control. 

A junior house manager will be recruited in the new year to assist.

HOUSE MANAGER/EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER

Essential Requirements: Previous Middle East experience preferred.
This position will suit a person with experience in a formal private household as a head/executive housekeeper or assistant manager. Supervisory experience is essential as is an excellent knowledge of housekeeping products along with knowledge of fine furniture, fabrics and finishes.

You will ensure that the household runs smoothly and quietly and that an excellent service is provided to the principals in an efficient but unobtrusive manner. 

You will manage 15 staff and your duties will be broadly as follows:

An exciting position for a private family based in Somerset to manage the maintenance and upkeep of a modern 6-bedroom home (main residence) and office complex.  This is a multi-faceted role that will require an all-rounder who can manage the property as well as the health / wellness facilities, manage the vehicle fleet, maintain and manage the upkeep of a smaller domestic property, equestrian facilities, an office and storage all based at the same site.  

In addition to the main residence, you will be required to manage a small office complex including a warehouse and cottage that is leased.  The office has a small team of staff and is located approximately 4 miles from the main residence.   Duties will include the hands-on maintenance and contracts to ensure correct level of operations, weekly and monthly checks of the buildings and land, management of the cleaners, direct mail as required, weekly fire drills to meet compliance, etc.  

The split would be 1-2 days at the offices and 3-4 days at the private residence.

You will be required to manage the maintenance contracts to ensure best cover for the family with minimal intrusion.   You will also be responsible for managing contractors when onsite.  

It is essential that you are hands-on with a strong technical background.  You should have the ability to diagnose and remedy minor faults. 

Additional duties will include

  • Manage the cleaning and servicing of the vehicle fleet including sales and purchases
  • Driving duties in the UK, so you must be a confident driver
  • Hands-on with regards to routine deep cleaning (windows, door runners, gutters, etc.)
  • Utilise and assist the handyman with projects and routine works
  • Conduct weekly and monthly checks of the house systems, buildings and ground
  • Procurement and sourcing for the family in tandem with the PA
  • Running general errands
  • Manage the security of the property, being a key holder for alarm responses
  • Manage the tenanted farmland in conjunction with the land agents
  • Assist the gardener as required

There is a small team of staff in place including a PA, housekeeper, handyman, labourer and gardener, so essential that you work well in a team environment.  This is very much a hands-on role that requires you to have the ability to prioritise and multi-task.   You should have experience working in a smart home and have a good understanding of electrics, heating, swimming pools, saunas, etc.  

5-day working week, Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm.   Salary circa £50,000 based on experience.   (HU3758)

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE MANAGER / BUTLER

A superb and exciting opportunity for an experienced and traditional House Manager/Butler to oversee and manage a substantial newly built Shooting Estate in Dorset.   The property is currently under constructions and is due to be completed in early 2022.   

We are looking for a candidate who will ideally be available to start in October / November, as you will be involved in the challenging task of all final preparations to the property; working alongside architects, interior designers, building contractors and the Estate Manager to ensure the house is set up, provisioned, working systems established, etc., and ready to receive clients and guests.  

The position will require a professional and experienced candidate with previous country house experience.  The property is a Shoot Estate and as such it will be advantageous if you have previously worked long-term in a similar environment.  

We are looking for a strong, personable candidate who can rise to the challenge and demands of this new position and who can work effectively in a managerial role as well as a hands-on role.  

We seek a candidate who has exceptional communication and organisational skills who can effectively motivate and manage a team of staff and be involved in the recruitment and training of additional household staff; both permanent and temporary as required.  

Strong administrative skills will be required as you will be managing staff schedules, inventory, purchasing, budgets, etc.   Top butler skills imperative; excellent front of house experience along with being comfortable in both formal and informal settings.

It is anticipated that the property will not be used in a permanent capacity.  Our client and family will visit periodically throughout the year and will be particularly busy with house guests during the shoot season.
