Lovely position in a rural village South of Stowmarket. This beautiful estate is newly refurbished and requires an experienced residential assistant estate manager to ensure the grounds are maintained to a very high standard. The owners are a mature couple – semi retired with no children. Most of the time only the principals will be in residence, but occasional guests will stay (on average once per month).
The main house is a Grade 2 listed -8-bedroom former rectory, with 2 guest cottages on site, an outdoor pool and tennis court in approx. 50 acres of paddocks, lawns, and formal gardens.
You will be required to assist with the overall security and day to day running of the estate. You should have a practical background with good hands-on maintenance skills and be capable of property maintenance and hard landscaping. Ideally with previous qualifications of a trade or with gardening knowledge and experience.
You will be required to clean and look after the cars and garden machinery, undertaking and arranging servicing, repairs etc. You will be working alongside a team of staff, so essential you are a team player. There will be some occasional driving duties for the principals including airport and station pickups, restaurants, etc.

This is a superb, new position for a fluent English and French speaking horticulturist with ability to maintain, to a very high standard, 1 acre of gardens. The position will require someone very knowledgeable in plant material, trees and shrubs and somebody who is able to work closely with the owner, who is herself extremely knowledgeable, loves her gardens and has special ideas and projects in mind for this newly acquired property. Renovation work will commence on the house in April and is expected to be ongoing for 18 months.
It would be especially helpful if the successful applicant was knowledgeable in the Dutch/German landscape tradition of Piet Ouldolf, though not essential.
Candidates should be superb plantsmen, experienced in all aspects of the gardening year and able to communicate well. Must be able to coordinate and develop any further areas of the property as required, working alongside the employer, landscaper and outside contractors. A team player is required, with the ability to muck in and somebody who is willing to help this charming owner with running odd errands and to assist when and where needed. A “Can Do” attitude is essential. Duties will include sole care of the gardens and the exterior of the residence. You will be required also to maintain the annual garden manual, keeping photographic updates as well as a written record.
Candidates must be able to grow and maintain a large variety of high-quality plants, maintain electrics/garden lighting and automatic watering, manage the weekly garden maintenance team, deal with outside contractors and visitors to the estate and care for the swimming pool. We are seeking a live out Estate/Household Manager with excellent staff management, administration, front of house and service skills and the ability to work closely alongside some very long-term employees, gaining knowledge in the running of this large VIP residence, setting up manuals, procedures, creating staff working descriptions and appraisals, keeping inventory and stock control records and suchlike.
As the Principal will not be in residence for more than 3 to 4 months of the year, flexibility when the family is in residence is needed, though normal working hours are 9.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday.
When the Principal is not in residence, you will also be required to oversee the care of 2 or 3 other London residences.
Occasional formal and informal events may take place within the grounds of the residence, and you should be able to organise, plan and execute these to ensure the smooth running of the function.
